Description

American performer and songwriter (1879-1959) best known for co-writing such standards as the baseball anthem, ‘Take Me Out to the Ball Game,’ and ‘Shine On, Harvest Moon.’ TLS, one page, 8.5 x 11, personal letterhead, September 9, 1947. Letter to Variety Magazine, in full: "Will you kindly return any material of mine filed with your protected material department, if same has not been swiped by Joe Laurie Junior." Also includes a return receipt, 5 x 3, postmarked 23, 1947 signed in pencil by Norworth. In very good to fine condition, with scattered creases and staple holes. Accompanied by a letter from Variety to Norworth, dated May 19, 1920, acknowledging the receipt of a sealed envelope.
