Description

Lengthy biographical manuscript from the papers of FDR′s filmmaker

Typed biographical chronology of Franklin D. Roosevelt's life, totaling more than 425 pages, from the papers of documentary filmmaker Pare Lorentz. The timeline traces FDR's life from his birth in 1882 through his death in 1945, offering detailed—often day-by-day—insight into his childhood and upbringing, early life, career in politics, and presidential administration. Minor handwritten corrections and additions have been made throughout in an unknown hand, likely that of Lorentz. In overall fine condition.

Pare Lorentz (1905-1992) became known as 'FDR′s filmmaker' for his government-sponsored documentary films of Depression-era America and World War II. This timeline of Roosevelt's life, evidently compiled in the late 1940s and early 1950s, may have been intended to serve as an outline for a potential documentary on the president—one that never came to fruition.

The consignor notes that she worked for Elizabeth Lorentz, the widow of Pare Lorentz, for approximately nine years; when cleaning out his estate, this manuscript was among the items she no longer wanted.
