ALS signed “Clyde W. Tombaugh,” one page, 8.5 x 11, August 31, 1978. Interesting letter about his childhood heroes, in part: "It may be that the younger children do not have heroes, and perhaps many in the teens. The later teens seem to greatly admire Elvis Presley, also baseball, football, Olympics etc., and astronauts, but quite limited in pure science. I started studying Astronomy at the age of 12, and my heroes were Galileo and Sir William Herschel. I admired Galileo because he stood up for the truths of science, against the dogma and persecution of the Church. Herschel because he made his own telescopes and he was the greatest explorer of the heavens in his day." In fine condition.
