Polk and Buchanan pardon a burglar

Manuscript DS, signed “James K. Polk” as president and “James Buchanan” as secretary of state, one page, 10 x 15.5, June 1, 1848. Robert Scott, convicted of burglary by the Criminal Court of the District of Columbia in its June session, 1844 and sentenced to a term of four years imprisonment, is granted a "full and unconditional pardon" on the recommendation of the Warden and Physician of the penitentiary, and "considering that the ends of justice have probably been obtained in this case." Boldly signed at the conclusion by President Polk and Secretary of State Buchanan. The white paper seal affixed to the lower left remains fully intact. In fine condition.
