Coveted ALS in German, one page both sides, 5 x 8, November 5, 1870. A neatly penned letter from the great German composer, advising his correspondent that he has recommended an article about 'Das Rheingold' to his publisher E. W. Fritsch, but feels it needs some revision. Matted and framed with a portrait to an overall size of 16.5 x 13.5; frame backing features a window for viewing the front of the letter. In fine condition, with two small tears to the left side. Provenance: Lot 254, Christie's, April 29, 1981. The recipient was most probably Gottlieb Federlein, whose article 'Das Rheingold' appeared in Fritsch's music journal Musikalisches Wochenblatt in 1871.
