Description

DS as president, signed “J. Q. Adams,” one page, 14 x 17.5, May 5, 1825. President Adams appoints David S. Edwards as "Acting Surgeon in the Service of the United States." Boldly signed at the conclusion by President Adams and countersigned by Secretary of the Navy Samuel L. Southard. The crisp white paper seal of the Navy Department is affixed at the bottom. In good to very good condition, with staining, toning, small areas of edge paper loss, old along the edges on the back, and splitting along intersecting folds (including nearly complete separation along the central horizontal fold).
