Description

Pioneering African-American contralto (1897-1993) best remembered for her memorable 1939 performance on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial after the Daughters of the American Revolution refused to let her perform for a racially mixed audience at Constitution Hall. Glossy 8 x 10 half-length photo of Anderson during a performance, signed in blue ballpoint. Reverse bears a trio of Federal News Photos copyright stamps. In fine condition.
