(Fleischer Studios, 1931) Original production background featuring the theater stage from the early Betty Boop cartoon Silly Scandals, showing the brightly lit stage with the audience in the foreground. Accomplished in pen and ink wash on an off-white 8 x 7.5 sheet. Impressively framed with an engraved plaque to an overall size of 18.5 x 20.5 In fine condition.
Just the fifth animated short to feature Betty Boop, 'Silly Scandals' is historic as the first cartoon to call her 'Betty' after she had previously been nameless. At this time, Betty's character still had dog ears, a white nose, lots of curls, and an enormous head. This is the earliest Fleischer Studios production artwork we have encountered.
