Description

AMQS on an off-white 5 x 6.75 album page, signed below in ink, "Oskar Nedbal, 10.1.1924, Smetana Celebration, Wien." Nedbal pens four bars of music from Bedrich Smetana's 'Vltava [the Moldau].' On the reverse is an AMQS of Karl Pauspertl, last bandmaster of the famed Viennese Hoch und Deutschmeister Regiment, who pens four double-bars from the 'Gloria' of his 'Augustinian Mass,' at Baden, 21 June 1920. Below his signature is that of painter Theodor Engel. In fine condition, with show-through from writing on both sides.

Nedbal’s operetta 'Polenblut' (1913 ) also known as 'die Erntebraut' attained great popularity. He wrote five other operettas and much instrumental and solo music including piano variations on a theme by Antonin Dvorak, his beloved teacher.
