Description

Dylan's stage-used Hohner Marine Band from the Never Ending Tour

Bob Dylan's stage-used M. Hohner Marine Band harmonica in the key of B, played during his 1991 world tour. Originating from Dylan's longtime guitar technician Cesar Diaz, the top surface of the harmonica is marked with the corresponding key on a small piece of white tape. Complete with its original plastic case; affixed to the bottom is the Christie's label, reading: "20 Apr 99, Sale 8225, Lot 246/7." In fine condition.

Besides Dylan, Diaz worked with a number of high profile musicians, most notably Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eric Clapton, Keith Richards and Neil Young. Diaz was also called into service as a guitarist in Dylan’s touring band in 1991, playing on nearly fifty dates after G. E. Smith left the band. Dylan began playing the harmonica in high school, and its distinct sound is prevalent in many of his early works. As a concert-used instrument that helped to shape Dylan's trademark early sound, this is an extremely desirable piece.
