Jim Lehrer's engraved metal press pass used while working for the Dallas Times Herald in 1963-1964, including coverage of the Kennedy assassination. The piece, which was attached to his clipboard, is engraved, "The Dallas Times Herald, Jim Lehrer, 509-61-7425, Press Pass, 1963-1964, 545." In fine condition. When Kennedy was assassinated, Lehrer was working as the federal beat reporter for the Times Herald and had been assigned to cover the president's arrival at Love Field, then remain there and report on his departure. When he heard Kennedy had been shot, he first went to Parkland Hospital, and then spent the rest of the day and all night at the Dallas Police Station. The next six months of his journalistic career were spent on the assassination, covering all the investigations and checking out every conspiracy theory. An unusual 'witness' piece from a monumental event in American history.
