Description

Exceedingly rare one-off program for Colgate University's “Fortnight of Active Arts,” a two week-long celebration of the arts that was highlighted by a performance by The Doors on March 15, 1968, which also featured The Stone Poneys and Linda Ronstadt as the openers. The program, 24 pages, 9.75 x 12, features a schedule of events (March 2-16) and images and biographies, with the Doors and Jim Morrison given an attractive two-page spread near the end of the program. In fine condition.

The Doors performed in front of approximately 3000 spectators on Cotterell Court in the Reid Athletic Center of Colgate University, with the band starting their performance without vocals due to technical problems with Jim Morrison's microphone. In March 1968, The Doors management hired famed New York artist Bobby Neuwirth to 'babysit' Jim Morrison and complete a short documentary film entitled ‘Not to Touch the Earth’ as a companion piece to their recently recorded epic ‘The Celebration of the Lizard.’ The film includes footage of The Doors taken at Colgate on March 15th, at the Eastman Theater in Rochester on the 16th, and in Boston at the Boston Back Bay Theater on the 17th.
