Signer of the Declaration of Independence from Virginia (1726-1791) who was the father of President William Henry Harrison and great-grandfather of President Benjamin Harrison. Manuscript DS, signed twice, "Benj. Harrison," one page both sides, 7.25 x 12, December 22, 1785. Legal document concerning an agreement between Harrison and others "concerning the purchase and location and surveying of…tracts of land on the western waters," authorizing an agent to sell up to 20,000 acres of land in the tract. Harrison signs twice at the conclusion, adding an autograph endorsement, "We authorize Mr. Nours to give Henry Smork four hundred acres of land for his trouble." Also signed by future governor of Virginia Edmund Randolph as a witness. In very good condition, with chipping to edges and archival tape repairs to separations of the intersecting folds. The 'western waters' mentioned may be a reference to the Ohio River area, where Harrison was an active land speculator.
