Signer of the Declaration of Independence from Georgia (1749-1804). Revolutionary War-dated partly-printed DS, signed “Geo. Walton, Chf. Justice,” one page, 8 x 12.25, February 12, 1783. Official document issued in Georgia, in part: "The Defendant is hereby required, personally, or by his Attorney, to be and appear before the Justices of the Superior Court, to be held in and for the County of Chatham on the first Tuesday in March next, then and there to answer to the Plaintiffs Demands, in an Action on the case and so forth, to his Damage Fifty pounds." Signed in the left margin by Walton as chief justice of Georgia. Affixed to the reverse is a document swearing that James Field is indebted to Herman Horson for 24 pounds. In very good to fine condition, with splitting to the folds, one of which is partially repaired on the back.
