Description

Writer and critic (1893-1967) best known for her often cruelly witty and cynical tone. ALS, one page, 8.5 x 11, personal letterhead, no date. Letter to "John," in part: "This is to introduce Mr. Chester Alan Arthur (in case you think you or I or both of us have given in to the hear, he's the grandson of that president.) He has been secretary of the Democratic State Central Committee in California, and his knowledge of California politics is thorough and not very roseate. He is anxious to talk to you about the present oil messes—he knows all about them, and it is important and interesting and not at all pretty." In fine condition, with light overall creasing, and pencil notes on the top and reverse, perhaps in the hand of the recipient.
