ALS signed “Jenny Lind-Goldschmidt,” four pages on two adjoining sheets, 4.5 x 7, April 19, 1864. Letter declining an invitation to New York amidst the Civil War, in part: "You will—I trust—easily understand that it is out of the question for me to comply with the request of the Board of the Sanitary Committee to come to New York to sing for your unfortunate brethren, the victims of this sad civil war! Apart from my domestic duties, and perhaps also the very different view from your which I take of the struggle which has originated the Institution for which you plead—the distance in itself will sufficiently explain why I cannot sensibly entertain your request." In fine condition. Accompanied by an unsigned engraving of Lind.
