Politician and sportsman (1841-1908) who ruled as governor general of Canada from 1888 to 1893, remembered as the namesake of the Stanley Cup. He was one of the original inductees into the Hockey Hall of Fame. ALS signed “Fred. Stanley,” one black-bordered page, 4.5 x 7, 20 Lowndes Square letterhead, June 16, 1870. Brief letter to J. Butler, in full: "Overleaf you will find the order for the House of Commons on Monday night." In fine condition, with light staining to the corners from old mounting residue on the reverse.
