Description

From a witnessed fall over China, featuring the newly discovered mineral Tuite

Historic Suizhou stone chondrite (L6) meteorite fragment, from the witnessed fall over Dayanpo, Suizhou Prefecture, Hubei Province, China, at 6:50 PM on April 15, 1986. The fragment weighs 353.57 grams and measures approximately 98 mm x 87 mm x 43 mm. Found in the thin veins of shock melt is Tuite, a new polymorph of the mineral Whitlockite. The fragment's creamy matrix vividly contrasts with broad surfaces of black fusion crust on two sides—the result of its fiery plunge through Earth's atmosphere. Accompanied by a custom-built display stand and a descriptive plaque.
