Description

Gorky on the "right to translate my works into Swedish"

Important Russian writer (1868-1936), who was a founder of the socialist realism literary method. ALS in Cyrillic, signed with his given name, “A. Peshkov,” one page, 8.25 x 10.75, no date. Letter to R. Lindquist, evidently the Finnish translator and writer Rafael Lindqvist, who eventually came to translate Maxim Gorky's work into Swedish. In full (translated): "Gracious sir! The right to translate my works into Swedish has been handed over to me by Mr. August Scholz in Berlin, and you must ask him for permission to translate. I'll send the portrait. Andreev also passes on the right to translate his European fairy tales to Scholz. I shake your hand, and thank you for the good memory!" Affixed by one quadrant to an identification sheet and in very good to fine condition, with intersecting folds, a split to the top of the vertical fold, and light show-through from adhesive on the reverse. A fascinating literary letter concerning the international dissemination of his works.
