Description

ALS, two pages on two adjoining sheets, 5.5 x 6.75, March 11, 1917. Letter to NY Times book review editor Dr. Clifford Smyth, in part: "I want to thank you & the Times reviewer for what seems to me quite the first understanding review of 'The Job' that I have had. Of course I may be prejudiced & 'understanding review' may merely mean 'favorable'—writers are prone to think that praise of themselves is rare discernment. But 'The Job' has been so thoroughly panned as a sordid, wrong-minded, unfair presentation that your splendid review is a…joy to me." In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope, addressed in Lewis's own hand.
