Description

Extremely rare letter from "Lee," regarding plans for his birthday party—"Lots of Charlie. Bring a bottle"

ALS signed “Lee, xx,” one page, 5 x 8, no date. Letter to his friends Alice Smith and Cressida Pye, in full: "My birthday to day my party is at Annabelle Rothschilds house, please come. 9 pm onwards. No. 1 All Saints Rd. Lots of Charlie. Bring a bottle." In very good to fine condition, with light folds and creases and a small tear to bottom edge. A former model and ex-wife of Nathaniel Rothschild, Annabelle Neilson (1969-2018) was a close friend and confidante to McQueen, and the last person to see him alive before he took his own life in 2010. A bridesmaid with Kate Moss at McQueen's unofficial wedding to George Forsyth in 2000, Neilson was for a time his muse in the 1990s and was later the dedicatee of McQueen's Autumn/Winter 1998 collection, Joan. An exceedingly rare handwritten letter from the fashion icon. Provenance: from the Alexander McQueen Collection of Alice Smith, his first publicist, longtime friend, and muse.
