Description

Rare ticket for the Alexander McQueen fashion show, ‘Untitled,' presented at London's Gatliff Road Warehouse on September 28, 1998, as part of the designer’s Spring/Summer 1998 collection. The ticket measures 8″ x 3.75″ and is made of bright yellow Perspex, with white upper text listing the event name and venue details, with lower gray text listing press and buyer contact information, with right side bearing an American Express sponsorship logo. The upper right is marked in black felt tip, “Alice Smith, AJ6,” next to a small white sticker. The ticket is accompanied by its original mailing envelope, also addressed to “Alice Smith,” and the show’s directional map, with caption box to lower left reading: “It is imperative that you bring your ticket to the show as there will be no McQueen P.R. representative on the door. Access will only be granted on production of a ticket—with no exceptions.” In fine condition.

‘Untitled’ was the first show for which McQueen received financial support from American Express, which was about to launch a new gold credit card. The collection was presented as ‘Untitled’ because the sponsors were uncomfortable with the implicit sexual connotations of McQueen’s original chosen title, ‘The Golden Shower.’

Provenance: from the Alexander McQueen Collection of Alice Smith, his first publicist, longtime friend, and muse.
