Description

Legendary organized crime leader (1902-1983) who headed the notorious ‘enforcement’ syndicate Murder, Inc., which emerged in the early 1930s as successor to the warring Prohibition gangs and the old-line Mafia, and continued to operate into the 1950s. ALS signed “Dad,” one page, 8.25 x 10.75, December 26, 1970. Letter to his daughter Sandra, in part: "So near and yet so far: isn't wonderful to pick up a phone * call about 6000 mi away and talk the same as being around the corner. It sure was a great pleasure to talk to all of you and hear that you are all well and happy. It is true we all would have liked it better if we were all together for the Holiday but we can't have everything they say and as long as we don't lose our love and devotion for one another we will feel that we are present. I admire your devotion Sandra…Send blank checks immediately and follow up with a check book…The lawyer received the books." In fine condition, with light creasing, and a paperclip impression, to the top. During this period, Lansky was in Israel and attempting to gain citizenship there while escaping federal tax evasion charges in the US. He was deported back to the US two years later, and was acquitted in 1974.
