Description

Potsherd and broken glass artifacts dug from an area surveyed by Abraham Lincoln in 1836, mounted in a shadowbox display alongside a photocopy of Lincoln's survey of the region. A typed caption by Illinois State Historian Dr. Harry Pratt, a noted Lincoln researcher, notes that these "bits of glass, dishes, and pottery were found at the abandoned site of Huron." The town of Huron was one of the five town sites surveyed by Lincoln; these artifacts are from the town site. A description on the reverse notes that Pratt recovered the artifacts in the 1940s while studying the Huron area. Framed to an overall size of 12.25 x 15.25. In fine condition.
