Rare original 8-track tape artwork design for Are You Experienced, the debut studio album from The Jimi Hendrix Experience, as commissioned by the Warner Bros. Records art department in 1967. The 'mechanical' depicts Karl Ferris’s fisheye image of Hendrix, Mitch Mitchell, and Noel Redding posing together with matching afro haircuts between the band and album name, 14 x 17, with affixed vellum overlay annotated with design instructions and measurements, such as: “No Type,” “No Logo,” and “Cropping for 8 Track Only.” Mounted and framed to an overall size of 18 x 21.5. In fine condition.
Consignor notes that his friend, Ronn Spencer, was “hired in the mid 1970s to go through the Warners art archives and dispose of anything that wouldn’t be needed in the future…He kept a number of items, which I later acquired from him. He gave this particular piece of art to a mutual friend, from whom I acquired it.”
