Description

Italian theatre, opera and cinema director (1906-1976) who is best known for his films Ossessione, Death in Venice, and The Damned. TLS in Italian, one page, 8.5 x 11, October 13, 1951. Letter to a "Maestro," in part (translated): "It is really too bad that you were unable to visit me despite your many attempts, but I am puzzled why nobody told you that, having only just returned from Venice, I had to get right back to work to finish my film, which is why it was so hard to find me at home…I would enjoy if we could get together again to pick up our conversation started this summer…Let me repeat, however, that I would enjoy working for the Teatro dell Opera as long as certain work conditions are that I consider necessary for the best results." In fine condition. At the time, Visconti was involved in the completion of his film Bellissima, starring Anna Magnani. The Teatro dell Opera di Roma was one of the venues at which he chose to work; the recipient of this letter was most likely Franco Ferrara, director of the Teatro.
