TLS as president, one page, 7 x 10.25, White House letterhead, December 2, 1954. Letter to industrialist and philanthropist Spencer T. Olin, in full: "Of all the obligations of citizenship, I know of none that places a higher premium on steadfast loyalty to principle, hard work and personal sacrifice than the kind of effort you expended in the campaign this fall, as volunteer Chairman of the Citizens Finance Committee. Practical politics, I've found, is not only a special skill but a jealous master, and well I know that you gave generously of your effort and time in our common cause for good government and a stronger, better country. For all that you did, I am deeply grateful. I am convinced that the kind of effort you made, which so many others also expended, assures an overwhelming victory two years hence for the cause in which we commonly believe." Affixed to a larger sheet and in very good to fine condition, with wrinkling to the perimeter from the mounting residue on the reverse.
