TLS, one page, 6.5 x 10, 17 Wood End Lane letterhead, March 11, 1937. Letter to John Hessian of Doubleday, Doran, and Co., in part: "According to your statement of January 2nd, I have $21,432.02 coming as of that date—this being aside from an advance of $5,000 on the next novel to be written. I wish you would begin to deposit this to my account in the Guaranty Trust Company, Fifth Avenue and 44th Street…at the rate of $3,000 per month…There is still a balance of over $3,000 in unearned advance for 'Work of Art.' I paid off a good deal of this last year but, just now, I want to discontinue repaying this advance until a later date." Hessian adds a line at the bottom in pencil. In fine condition, with staple holes to the upper left corner.
