Description

Army surgeon and Union general (1829-1892) who was on duty during the Confederate attack on Fort Sumter to start the Civil War and later led troops in support of Col. Strong Vincent at Little Round Top. Partly-printed DS, signed “S. W. Crawford,” one page, 30.75 x 10.25, June 30, 1869. Muster roll of a detachment of the Signal Corps serving under Crawford at Huntsville, Alabama, recording a $30 payment to Private William Pope. Signed at the conclusion in purple ink by Crawford. In very good to fine condition, with a short edge tear, a stain to the top edge, and old tape repairs to fold splits.
