Description

1984 MLB All-Star Game Balfour Ring

Gold-tone celestrium ring created by Balfour for the 1984 MLB All-Star Game, hosted by the San Francisco Giants at Candlestick Park. The ring, approximately size 10 and 30 gm, features a cubic zirconia set into a blue stone at center, encircled by "Baseball All Star." One shank features the logo of the 1984 All-Star Game; the other has the Major League Baseball logo and reads: "1984, Candlestick Park." The inner band is etched: "LGB GTC." In near mint condition. Accompanied by the original hinged Balfour case and cardboard box.

The consignor reports that this beautiful ring was presented to a former San Francisco player who spent eight seasons with the Giants. The ring not only commemorates the 1984 All Star Game but also celebrates iconic Candlestick Park, which was demolished in September 2015. In a game dominated by great pitching, the National League took a 3-1 victory in the 1984 MLB All-Star Game. The game set a nine-inning All-Star Game record for most strikeouts (21), which would stand until 1999. George Brett, Gary Carter, and Dale Murphy hit solo home runs, and Fernando Valenzuela and Doc Gooden each struck out the side in their dominant performances. A handsome memento from a midsummer classic played in the “City by the Bay.”
