LS signed “Jno. Schofield,” two pages on two adjoining sheets, 7.75 x 9.75, War Department letterhead, November 28, 1869. Secretary of War Schofield writes to Assistant Attorney General Theophilus Lyle Dickey, in part: "In reply to your communication of the 19th ult. requesting evidence &c in the matter of the claim of Patrick Crowley vs. the United States, pending in the Court of Claims, I have the honor to forward to your official auspices of such papers relating to the case as could be obtained from the records of the War Department." In very good to fine condition, with splitting to the folds and hinge, and two pieces of tape on the edges of the second page.
