Description

Zanuck, casting Requiem for a Nun, thinks Marilyn "perfect for the part"

TLS signed “Richard Zanuck,” one page, 8.5 x 11, Darryl F. Zanuck Productions, Inc. letterhead, December 4, 1959. Letter to Marilyn Monroe, addressing her as "Mrs. Miller" during her marriage to the great playwright Arthur Miller. In part: "Here is my first rough draft screenplay of 'Requiem for a Nun,' a combination of the William Faulkner novel, 'Sanctuary' and his play. I wish that I could give you a finished screenplay but, being aware of the fact that you are making commitments far in the future, I feel that it is perhaps best to get your earliest reaction. Therefore, please accept our first effort, and make the necessary allowances for the improvement which will materialize in the final script. I have always felt you would be perfect for the part and, needless to say, I'd be more than delighted if you were to share my feelings." In fine condition, with light staining in the lower left corner. Darryl Zanuck would produce Sanctuary in 1961, starring Lee Remick as Temple Drake.
