Description

American jazz pianist and composer who wrote the jazz standard 'Lady Sings the Blues' (1919-1962). Two handwritten musical manuscripts in pencil by Herbie Nichols, totaling three pages, 9.5 x 12.5, each signed in the upper left corner, "Herbie Nichols." Nichols writes out the music for "The Gig" and "52nd St. Rag," providing the melody with complete chords. In fine condition, with light toning and soiling. Each piece is accompanied by a letter of provenance from Nichols's friend, jazz clarinetist, producer and critic Joseph P. Muranyi, and the original mailing envelope addressed to Muranyi in Nichols's own hand is included, complete with his signature, "Herbert H. Nichols," as part of the return address.
