Description

ALS, four pages, 5 x 8, personal letterhead, March 23, 1946. Written "At Sea," a letter to Colonel Frank Clarke, in part: "We have now had two beautiful calm warm restful days at sea. Today however it is cold, wet and foggy. I like to think of you returning to your lovely little house in the luminous south and having yourself a gay and restful holiday, released from the exhausting Churchill family. Your boundless warm hospitality & your loyal devotion to Winston are things I shall never forget. When we reach home we shall have been away twelve weeks. Twelve eventful & varied weeks. They were meant to be a rest, they have instead been a stimulant, excuse my writing but the boat is beginning to roll. Sunday, We have had a bit of rough weather but I don't mind it tucked up warm on a deep chair…We look forward to seeing you in London this summer." In fine condition, with rusty paperclip impressions and some faint foxing.
