An "anonymous contribution" to the American Birth Control League: "While the President is in office I cannot do anything which would bring great criticism"

TLS, one page, 6 x 9.25, White House letterhead, November 16, 1935. Letter to Ruth Adams in New York, in full: "I am enclosing my check for $5.00 but you will have to list it as an anonymous contribution, and I cannot give you permission to use my name. I am sure that you will understand that while the President is in office I cannot do anything which would bring great criticism." Penciled at the bottom in an unknown hand is: "Contribution to American Birth Control League." In fine condition.
