Description

American lawyer and politician (1739-1809) from New York City, who served as a delegate to the Continental Congress and drafted the Orangetown Resolutions chastising King George III. ADS, signed three times, "John Haring," one page, 7.75 x 10.75, February 2, 1786. At the top, Haring writes, in part: "The State of New York, To John Harding…debt to attending Congress, as a delegate, from the 7th to the 14th November 1785…to ditto from the 12th December 1785 to the 27th January 1786…£96. I certify on honour that I have attended Congress the time mentioned in this Acc't." He also signed again beneath a manuscript endorsement, certifying receipt of payment from Treasurer Gerard Bancker. In very good to fine condition, with chipping to the edges, and old tape repairs to the back of separations along the horizontal folds.
