Description

American educator (1900-1970) who defied state law in Tennessee by teaching the theory of evolution, precipitating the famous 'Monkey Trial' trial in 1925. He was convicted and received a nominal fine, but the decision was ultimately reversed on a technicality. Ballpoint signature, "John T. Scopes,” on an off-white 3.5 x 5.5 card bearing an affixed portrait, affixed alongside a news clipping about him. In fine condition. From the collection of Stephen Adamson.
