English composer, poet, and author (1883-1953) best known for the symphonic poem Tintagel. Two items: an AMQS on an off-white 4 x 2.25 sheet, signed in fountain pen, "Arnold Bax, July 1950," who adds three bars of music from his symphonic poem "Tintagel," noting that it should be played with a "Moderato" tempo; and an ALS signed "Arnold Bax," one page, 4.5 x 7, June 30th, no year, in full: "Innumerable people send me lyrics and I may tell you that yours are probably the most poetical that have ever come. I regret that I cannot make any use of them as I write no songs at all in these days. I am returning your poems herewith." In overall very good to fine condition, with light staining to the musical quotation. From the collection of Stephen Adamson.
