American composer and pianist of the Romantic period (1860-1908). TLS signed “E. A. MacDowell,” one page, 4.5 x 7, February 2, 1897. Letter to the editor of the Harper's Monthly, in full: "About six monthes ago you were kind enough to ask of me an Article on the subject of Music in America. I accepted but have been so overwhelmed with other work ever since, I have had no time to redeem my promise. Now however I hope to be able to do something of the kind, and write to ask if the Article is still desired on your part." In fine condition, with the letterhead inexplicably torn off.
