Description

Hardcover early 20th century scrapbook, 8.75 x 10.25, 110 pages, containing many affixed period newspaper clippings covering the assassination of President William McKinley and the aftermath, including the trial of Leon Czolgosz. The scrapbook begins with clippings from the New York Evening Telegram of September 6, 1901: "Special Extra, McKinley Shot by Anarchist." Following is a detailed contemporary chronicle of the aftermath: McKinley dies of his wounds on September 14th, after which funeral services are held and he is memorialized by a mourning nation. Czolgosz, put on trial for murder nine days after McKinley's death, was found guilty, sentenced to death on September 26, and executed by electric chair on October 29, 1901. In very good to fine condition, with heavy wear to the covers, and toning to interior pages. A fascinating, detailed contemporary chronicle of McKinley's assassination.
