Description

Rare Ticket from First Major American Performance by The Jimi Hendrix Experience

Two items: an original unused ticket for the third and final day of the 1967 Monterey International Pop Music Festival, 3.75 x 1.25, June 18, 1967, ticket No. 148; and one bifold business card, measures 3.5 x 4 unfolded, featuring the festival's logo on the front and production supervisor Alan Pariser's contact information on the inside. The ticket is housed in a plastic display case. In overall fine condition.

Preceding the Woodstock festival by nearly two years and establishing the template that it would follow, the Monterey International Pop Music Festival was a three-day concert event held from June 16-18, 1967, at the Monterey County Fairgrounds in California. It is remembered for the first major American appearances by the Jimi Hendrix Experience, The Who, and Ravi Shankar, the first large-scale public performance of Janis Joplin, and the introduction of Otis Redding to a mass American audience. Hendrix's iconic early performance—which included the fiery 'sacrifice' of his guitar on stage—left the crowd awestruck and vaulted him into the pantheon of American rock gods. Unused tickets for the festival are extremely scarce and highly sought-after by collectors.
