Description

LS signed “Booker T. Washington, Principal,” one page, 8 x 10.5, Tuskegee Normal & Industrial Institute letterhead, March 3, 1905. Letter to Franklin Carter, in full: "In handing you our Treasurer's receipt for twenty dollars, the amount sent by you as a contribution toward our mark, I wish to assure you that your interest as well as your benefaction which has been applied to our General Fund, helps ad encourages us very much. You will be interested to know that the work of the school is progressing nicely, and that we have a full school of bright and promising young men and women." In fine condition, with light toning, and a small crease to the upper right corner. The recipient, Franklin Carter (1837-1919), was an American professor of Germanic and romance languages and served as President of Williams College from 1881 to 1901.
