Description

Original linen-backed patent lithograph for G. Gaggino's invention of an aerial machine with aerostats, one page, 14.25 x 9.75, April 17, 1888. This machine consists of an aerostat surrounded by a large diaphragm or sail and is provided with horizontal and vertical rudders, a balance weight, and a car. It is made to move in a sinuous course by inclining the sail with the end downwards when it reaches its highest altitude, allowing it to descend rapidly. The top border reads: "A.D. 1888. April 17. No. 5742. Gaggino's Complete Specification." The lower border features the printed text: "London. Printed by Darling and Son Ltd. for Her Majesty's Stationery Office. 1889" and "Malby & Sons, Photo-Litho." The right border reads: "This Drawing is a reproduction of the Original on a reduced scale." In fine condition, with a few short edge tears.
