Incredible 3M ‘Scotch’ 7-inch reel double-length tape (200, 1/4 inch x 2400 feet) containing a three-track scratch recording for Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits Vol. II, with back cover annotated by a studio engineer in black ballpoint, “Down In The Flood,” “I Shall Be Released,” and “You Aint Goin Nowhere,” and the case spine marked in black felt tip by Dylan's friend, blues musician and music critic Tony ‘Little Sun’ Glover: “Dylan-New Tracks-Hits-Vol 2.” Presented by Dylan to Glover, the 7-inch reel tape is accompanied by an ALS signed “Bob,” written in green felt tip on a 4 x 6 sheet dated October 1st (1971), in full: “Tony, Am not sure if there are final mixes or not. 2nd guitar maybe up too high—In any case, here they are & I’d like to know your reaction (if any).” In fine condition.
Dylan forwarded this 7-inch reel tape to Glover after Esquire magazine declined to publish an interview written by the latter. In an attempt to help his old friend, Dylan sent Glover these three tracks to include with the interview, hopeful that the updated version would sway the powers that be at Esquire. A personal gesture of good will from Dylan to a trusted friend and musical accomplice—handwritten notes from Dylan remain decidedly rare.
