Uncommon partly-printed vellum DS as president, one page, 15.75 x 19.5, January 22, 1866. President Johnson appoints Henry C. Taylor as "a Master in the Navy." Crisply signed at the conclusion by President Johnson, and countersigned by Secretary of the Navy Gideon Welles. The orange seal affixed at the bottom remains intact. In fine condition, with intersecting folds. The recipient of this commission, Henry Clay Taylor, had served on the USS Shenandoah and USS Iroquois during the Civil War. He would rise to the rank of rear admiral, and later served as Chief of the Bureau of Navigation and President of the Naval War College.
