Description

TLS signed in red pencil, two pages, 7.25 x 10.5, personal letterhead featuring his facsimile signature, February 22, 1965. Letter to press agent Jess Rand, known for promoting the likes of Sam Cooke and Sammy Davis, Jr. In part: "Okay, as you put it, 'Let's have an understanding.' Yes, you have called, written, etc. And you said, 'If you want me to go to hell, say so!' Okay, if that will make you happy, Jess, go to hell! Now remember, Jess, you said it. 'No one gets hurt…no one is offended.' Okay, it's been said! You also said, 'The last time I heard from anyone regarding Jerry Lewis was a letter from A.G.V.A., etc. etc.' For taking the ad, I say thank you, though I didn't solicit it. I also say thank you for reminding me that you did so, whether your clients work for me or not, and I'm fully aware that there are 'people who just like people.' But you don't seem to understand there are also people who make it difficult for people to like them. As for being on a Diner's Club list, I wouldn't be the one to ask. A.G.V.A. might very well function that way, although I doubt it. Furthermore, if, as you say, 'Be a nice guy and tell me to keep out of your life,' will make you see a little more clearly just what the honest picture is, then watch what a nice guy is really like. Jess, keep out of my life!…P.S. really thought ignoring calls, letters, etc. would be the kind way. I'm sorry you forced my hand. It isn't one I enjoy having to play." In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope, which bears a facsimile signature in the return address area.
