English cartoonist, illustrator and children's writer (born 1932) who is best known for illustrating books written by Roald Dahl; he won the international Hans Christian Andersen Award in 2002, and from 1999 to 2001 he was the inaugural British Children's Laureate. Two ALSs from Quentin Blake on off-white 8.25 x 11.75 sheets of personal letterhead, dated February 17 and March 12, 1986, both addressed to "Simon." The earlier letter, in part: "If you like to send me your copy of The Giraffe, I'll be pleased to add my signature beside Roald Dahl's. (It takes quite a long time to get his signature, doesn't it? So many other people want it as well!)"; and the second letter, with Blake adding a sketch of a monkey holding up a sign, in full: "Here is your book, with my signature on the title page along with Roald Dahl's. I don't sell many of my pictures, but The Cartoon Gallery, which is in Lamb's Conduit Street, near Holburn, generally has a few. I'm not sure what they have at the moment; try them." In overall fine condition.
