Partly-printed vellum DS as president, signed “R. B. Hayes,” one page, 15.75 x 19.5, July 2, 1879. President Hayes appoints Horatio G. Wright as “Chief of Engineers with the rank of Brigadier General in the service of the United States.” Signed at the conclusion by Rutherford B. Hayes, and countersigned by Secretary of War George W. McCrary. The embossed blue War Office seal remains affixed to upper left panel. In fine condition, with a small hole in the left margin.
