Description

ALS signed “G. W. carver,” one page both sides, 8.5 x 11, Tuskegee Normal and Industrial Institute letterhead, July 4, 1932. Letter to an unknown recipient, ostensibly scientist Austin W. Curtis, Jr., in full: "This marks the end of a most wonderful and inspiring day to me. As to climate there has been a mixture of heavy showers, sunshine and shadows. I have had a very, very busy day, quite a few visitors, some exceedingly interesting and inspiring ones, among them were sculptors, artists, scientists and literary people, they propounded any problems. I had an opportunity for an hour or so in the woods, and during that time I made some splendid collections and have just finished examining them. You have seemed to be with me all the time, enjoying every bit of it. All day long, I have been puzzled to know why our paths did not meet sooner, the only answer that comes back is, that God moves in a mysterious way His wonders to to perform. You seem to be with me in all of my work that is worth while, it makes it so much lighter and easier for me. I trust you had an unusually good day I am confident of this that you added much to the sum total of your knowledge which puts you just a little nearer to the master mind which is the goal for this dear, handsome, wholesome boy of mine, who is so satisfying to me. Yours with love and the best of wishes." In fine condition.
