Description

Renowned American artist (1889-1975) whose distinctive 'regionalist' style made him one of the most influential figures in American art during the 1930s and 1940s. ALS signed “Thomas H. Benton,” one page, 7.25 x 10.5, personal letterhead, May 4, 1953. Letter to the editor's of 'Who's Who in America,' in full: "On a conversation today with Dr. Edwin Henry Schorer of Kansas City the question of biographies, and with it your new edition 'Who's Who in the Middle West,' came up. Dr. Schorer told me he had furnished biographical data for this edition but also informed me that he had never been asked to do so for your 'Who's Who in America.' This strikes me as an oversight. Dr. Schorer has been listed in 'American Men of Science' since 1910 and is also listed in your own 'Directory of Medical Specialists.' He was assistant to the Rockefeller Institute, was once Director of Health in Kansas City and has given long and wildly known service as physician and investigator." In very good condition, with overall creasing and soiling, and a short tear to the bottom edge.
